05-22-2007: A Favourite Hero Goes 3-D

I am happy to read on Herge's centennial birthday that his creation and my ultimate hero, Tintin, is going 3-D in a trilogy that is to be honed by the likes of Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg and a yet undecided director. Something to eagerly look forward to.

05-21-2007: 100% Multicultural

An office workspace where no two persons are from the same country. That would be a dream, which Craig Melchiano is living breathing right now.

05-20-2007: Peace

According to Mutt Ink.

05-19-2007: Siloso Cool

A not so great beach environment turns exciting and fun with some witty block type installation. Minor details that can take something from bland to exciting. More about Siloso beach here.

05-18-2007: Creativity

Another brilliant view of creativity from Jaime Lerner. The tighter the budget, the more the opportunity for some really innovative breakthrough thinking.

05-17-2007: Night Safari

Glowing elephants and more await you on a one of a kind experience at the Night Safari at the Singapore Zoo. Of course it is a pointless experience if you were fortunate to experience the real African safari (minus the glowing elephants of course!!).

05-16-2007: Curry Fishhead

They say it's an acquired taste. A day is worth looking forward to when you know there is a sumptuous curry fishhead waiting on the dinner table at the end of the day. And today was such a day :-) Some things that make you happy about Singapore.

05-15-2007: Optimism Personified

The quote from paralympic athlete, model and actress Aimee Mullins in the above picture captures the "glass is half full / half empty" philosophy. Life is only the way you look at it. It is optimism personified. Positivity multiplied.

From her speech at the Human 2.0 symposium organized by the MIT Media Lab.

05-14-2007: In Praise of Simplicity

After much deliberation, due to what can be blamed as sheer laziness and lack of clarity on where to focus or start from, I finally decided to take on my favorite topic or area of interest head on, somehow. For now I've put it in a blog format, a medium I've become slowly used to. We'll see where it goes from there.

So without further adieu, welcome to the simple life. A meager attempt to understand simplicity in today's ever complex digitally connected world.

05-13-2007: The Fine Art of Waiting (The Sequel)

Last month, this Alexandre Orion photo from Sao Paulo, Brazil, made me brood over the act of 'waiting' we all go through in life. This witty one from Bernie DeChant (aka Flickr:Razorbern) taken in Salvador, Brazil, puts a smile in the mind about the human side of machines.

05-12-2007: Save the Earth from Mankind

A funny t-shirt picked up at the flea market does not spare the environmentalists either. The message is save the planet from mankind. Period.

05-11-2007: Plastic Burger Supreme

My friend and colleague who is vacationing in the US sends me this picture taken in our New York office. It's a burger whose ingredients can be taken apart to make individual coasters. Being a junk food junkie myself, I really wouldn't mind one of these to plonk my pop drink can on.

05-10-2007: Make Life Better

Some brands believe in what they do and make sure they do what they believe in. The best ones of this ilk believe in true human values and a genuine concern for capitalism that doesn't deplete the environment. Howies is one such brand and their Little Big Voices initiative is a forum where many little big voices like the one above are heard and kindled to greater heights of social consciousness.

05-09-2007: Unity in Diversity

Got this interesting image in the mail from a high school friend. Don't know who the photographer is or if it is a photoshop created image. But all the same it is a great visual that captures the ethos of 'Unity in Diversity'. In this case the unity in religious diversity.

05-08-2007: The Primitive Land Called the Web

This interesting map of that invisible piece of space called the web has got that same look and feel of those early maps of the world. Creatively put together by XKCD. I am guessing years from now this could be a collector's piece that future generations will cherish in some museum.

05-07-2007: Mastering the City Language

Christopher Mangler's interpretation of the City Language of Berlin is giving me some inspiration to master the city language of New York and Singapore.

05-06-2007: Coachella

The music festival to be at. That I have not been at. But would like to be at in the future sometime. Hope all the acts stay true to their creative spirit.

05-05-2007: Happiness in Design

Here is graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister's take on happiness. From his Feb 2004 Ted Talk.

05-04-2007: Memories of the Middle of Nowhere

A scene from the flat Kansas prairie land (from this New York Times article) triggers some old memories of my year spent at Pittsburg State University in Kansas at the turn of the century. We used to drive for miles on the local highways on the absolutely flat landscape and the scene was like you see a barn and maybe every couple of miles you might see some cows grazing and then another 20 miles or so another barn might pop up. The horizon was always wide and open. It was truly big sky country.

This one though is about an ongoing debate about the other common villain of the Kansas prairie land.

05-03-2007: Life is One Big (Colorful) Question Mark

Graham Clifford's winning piece from the Creativity Print Challenge Show is a simplistic marvel that addresses the purpose of existence in the form of a colorful thought-provoking question mark. Brilliant!!

05-02-2007: Many Moods, One Face

This surreal image by Sao Paulo artist Jey captures the many moods we inhabit through the one face we have. Screenprint is for sale at Graffiti Brasil via Tristan Manco.

05-01-2007: Memory

A simple postcard promoting a play at the Drama Centre in Singapore also reminds us through it's profound title that memory is the most potent of all human remains.
